On the occasion of the International Volunteer Day, the “Elpida” Prevention Centre honours the invaluable contribution of volunteers in the prevention and promotion of psychosocial health. Volunteering is a strong buffer against the challenges of modern society, while it fosters a sense of participation and social responsibility, empowering individuals and families. The active participation of our volunteers in our domestic violence and single parent groups is instrumental in preventing and supporting those in need.
Volunteering offers not only practical help, but also valuable psycho-emotional support. The ability to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes, to understand their feelings and to offer meaningful help is a key pillar of prevention. Through volunteering, we cultivate empathy, build bridges of communication and empower ourselves and those around us. At the same time, volunteers develop skills, meet new people and build their self-confidence, experiencing the satisfaction of giving back. Through their action, our volunteers:
- Raise awareness in the community about domestic violence and ways of dealing with it.
- They empower single-parent families by offering psychological and social support.
On the occasion of the International Volunteer Day, the “Elpida” Prevention Centre organizes a series of activities aimed at raising awareness of the community on prevention and psychosocial health issues. One of these actions is the event entitled “Domestic violence: recognize, fight”, which will take place on 21 January 2025 at 18:00 in the hall of the 3rd Primary School of Pylaia. The event will include film screening, discussion and photo exhibition, aiming to inform and raise awareness of parents and children about the phenomenon of domestic violence. This event marks the beginning of a series of actions that our volunteer groups aspire to implement in the municipalities of the “Elpida” Prevention Centre. With the aim of raising awareness and active participation of the community, our volunteers will organise a variety of activities that will promote prevention and empowerment.
International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to recognise the work of our volunteers and to thank them warmly for their contribution.
We invite you to become part of our effort!
