Today, Tuesday 15 February 2022, the new President of the Centre for the Prevention of Addictions and Promotion of Psychosocial Health of Eastern Thessaloniki “Elpida”, Betty Semakoula, paid a customary visit to the Mayor of Thermi Theodoros Papadopoulos. In the context of the meeting, issues of cooperation between the Centre and the municipality of Thermi were discussed, on issues of social actions developed by “Elpida”, such as parenting schools, individual counselling, lectures in schools on modern and topical social issues that concern young people.
At the same time, ways of financially supporting the work of the Centre, which has been operating since October 1998, were examined. It is a civil non-profit company with the main objective of preventing drug addiction, especially among young people, and promoting the mental and physical health of the residents of Eastern Thessaloniki. It implements prevention programmes for parents, young people, teachers and other social groups. It participates in networks and involves volunteers to send prevention messages to the local community and is staffed by qualified social scientists.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Education, Lifelong Learning, Culture, Youth and Social Protection, Stelios Apostolou.
In his statement, the Mayor of Thermi explained the work of the “Elpida” Centre, underlined the excellent cooperation with the municipality and assured that the municipality will continue to provide all support to its work.
