Meeting the Other
The educational material “Meeting the Other” was designed and written during the school year 2017 – 2018; at the same time, it was implemented by 4 groups of teachers, 3 of which were universal interventions, either in whole schools (2nd Primary School of Michaniona, 6th Primary School of Kalamaria) or in schools of a region (1st, 2nd and 3rd Primary Schools of Epanomi). After the evaluation of the first year of implementation, it was modified and took its final form in the school year 2018 – 2019, and was implemented in a universal intervention by the 1st Primary School of Trilofos.
The design of the implementation of the material involved, initially, an introductory training in basic coordination and team principles. Subsequently, and throughout the implementation, fortnightly teacher support/supervision meetings were held; these meetings were structured along 2 axes a) simulated workshops and b) supervision/guidance on implementation problems.
Its main purpose is to develop and promote healthy, constructive relationships, both within the school community and outside it, in everyday life.
Its individual objectives are:
- to get to know each other better
- connect as a group
- understand the meaning and function of relating
- develop social and personal skills related to relating
- come into contact with the diversity of themselves and others
Program structure:
- Implementation of an introductory training seminar (2 days, 11 hours) for teachers, aiming at the understanding of basic concepts of the programme on the one hand and familiarisation with experiential learning techniques on the other hand.
- Supervision group for teachers, coordinated by staff of the “ELPIDA” Prevention Centre. The aim of this group will be to support teachers in the implementation of the educational material to students. Each meeting will last 2 hours, depending on the number of participants. The total number of supervisory meetings will be set with each group.
- Parallel application of the educational material of the projectby teachers to students (10 two-hour sessions).
Participants will receive a certificate of participation after the end of the seminar and the implementation of the programme to the students.

The educational material includes 10 experiential workshops, with mostly original activities. The structure is structured through a specific and targeted concept of transition from relating to the self to relating to others.
Specifically, the thematic modules concern:
- Getting to know my team
- Approaching the concept of relating
- I recognize who I am, as a whole
- I accept myself, with its contradictions
- How I become what I am – I influence and am influenced
- Understanding the dynamics of relationships
- Realising my functional and dysfunctional ways of communicating
- I accept diversity, my own and others’
- I am training in a harmonious relationship
- Concluding the meeting and bidding farewell to the team
