The Prevention Centre “Elpida” has been carrying out addiction prevention interventions in the school community for 24 years, adopting the view that the promotion of mental health in education is one of the primary pillars of its action. Considering at the same time that the effectiveness of prevention work is increased when universal interventions are carried out, it consistently aims at actions which, whenever possible, involve both students and teachers and the family. Below we describe how we intervene in the Kindergarten, both in the school community and with the family of this age group.
Α. Actions to kindergarten teachers
For the school year 2022-23 we propose the “If all the children of the earth” programme:
Material | Classes | Duration | Subject area |
“If all the children of the earth” | Kindergarten | 10 two-hour meetings with students | “I care and I act”, Sub-unit : “Respect and Diversity”. |
The programme includes: a) the implementation of a training seminar, the duration of which will be shaped according to the level of experience of each teacher and b) supervision and support meetings in the implementation of the material on an individual or group level.
Β. Actions to parents
The Prevention Centre in cooperation with the kindergartens can address parents in the following ways:
- Parent groups of 10 two-hour meetings, with topics related to the needs of infancy (boundaries, emotions, aggression, etc.)
- Speeches to parents, whose topics can arise from cooperation with the kindergarten in question.
- Parent workshops of 3 two-hour sessions, focused on a topic that emerges from the needs of the school community and the family at a given time.
- Individual counselling to parents on issues that make it difficult for them in their role.
Any teacher interested in implementing the above programme in their classroom can submit their request by 14 October at the latest at the following link: https://forms.gle/BKunHbXpS7ZEGXYT6
