The “Elpida” Prevention Center, together with the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Preschool Education, Volunteering, and Gender Equality of the Municipality of Kalamaria, presents the performance of “Mikros Vorras” (Little North), “#Support_Hara.” This initiative, aimed at young people, teenagers, parents, and educators, is part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and aims to prevent and manage gender-based violence.
After 14 years of success in theater for children and young people, Mikros Vorras has decided to tackle the issue of gender-based violence in schools with tenderness and sensitivity, introducing audiences to the participatory process of Forum Theater.
Through the language of participatory theater, the viewer becomes both a protagonist and an actor, interacting and potentially overturning the negative circumstances presented to them, with the aim of collectively seeking a “solution” and moving forward with collective action.
Chara’s story is all of our stories. A schoolgirl experiences the most brutal form of gender-based violence from the person she fell in love with. She is afraid to talk about what happened to her. What’s more, the violent incident is recorded on a cell phone and made public. Chara feels enormous emotional pressure, pain, and guilt. And, as often happens in life, there is no real support system. Then she experiences a major impasse. The only solution is to flee. This is where Theater Forum begins.
How can we help Chara? How can each and every one of us prevent a tragic ending? What is our role in the story of every Chara? Can we change the course of events? And if so, how?
Because if none of the audience speaks up, if no one reacts, then the ending will remain the same. Just like in real life. So let’s play!
